We're looking for a talented and spiritually mature person to lead our creative team. You'd guide them in the creation of Christ-centered, video-based curriculum and marketing campaigns that promote our resources.
Church Initiative is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) ministry. We equip churches to help people who are hurting and to get more of their members involved in care ministry.
To date we've created resources like DivorceCare, GriefShare, Single & Parenting, DivorceCare for Kids, Chance to Change, Facing Forever, etc. Those programs feature interviews with subject matter experts (typically Christian authors, pastors, and mental health professionals), testimonial interviews, animations/motion graphics, and drama.
If you're the person for the job, you'd lead our team of graphic designers, marketing copywriters, and video producers as they contribute to the development of video-based, care ministry curriculum and accompanying multichannel, promotional, and support resources. You'll be aided by our team's Project Manager, Senior Writer, and others.
What is it like to work at Church Initiative?
Church Initiative is a fun place to work. Our dress code is casual (ties and business suits are prohibited). And we work out of a renovated, one-story hospital. So we have a ton of metaphors about care, healing, and recovery to share with you. Everyone on our team is heavily involved in his or her own local church and passionate about Christ. Each Monday morning at 8:45 our staff prays together, and every Friday afternoon at 3:00 we take a break to eat ice cream.
Our ministry headquarters is 15 minutes from Raleigh, NC, 2 hours from the beach, and 40 minutes from Research Triangle Park. Plus, we're within walking distance of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. So our town is full of people who love the Lord. Bottom line? Wake Forest is a great place to live and raise a family.
Here are some of the key tasks you'd be responsible for:
Guiding the creative processes from concept to completion
Establishing the look, feel, and format for video curriculum that we create
Ensuring that visual communication and brand standards are met across all channels (web, print, and video)
Working with video producers and our Senior Writer to come up with creative ways to communicate spiritual truths
Translating marketing objectives into clear creative strategies
Staying abreast of results of marketing campaigns, using data to adjust future work
Leading and directing the creative team in the production of marketing collateral
Meeting with upper management to explain campaign strategies and solutions
Coming up with efficient, cost-saving approaches to the creative process
Overseeing deliverables, timelines, and budgets
Communicating clearly with our Project Manager about the status of projects
Reviewing work, troubleshooting, and providing feedback to creative teams
Making recommendations regarding the cultivation and the career development of staff members, including designers, art directors, video specialists, and copywriters; you'd also make recommendations on individuals to recruit and hire
Training new employees in creative, communications, marketing, and digital departments
Anticipating and tracking trends to stay on top of fresh approaches to curriculum development and marketing
Establishing layout and design standards and working with Project Manager to determine best workflows and processes for our team
Here are the traits/skills we'd like you to have:
Strong writing skills
Understanding of television production concepts
A deep understanding of graphic and web design and copywriting
High proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite (most importantly, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere)
Excellent leadership skills
Excellent oral communication skills
A firm grasp on multichannel marketing and brand development
Experience using project management software (experience with Wrike is a plus)
Bachelor's degree in art, communications, journalism, marketing, film/video production, or web design
At least 5 years' experience working as a video producer, graphic designer, or art director, or in a related creative position
At least 3 years' experience as a creative director or managing other creatives
Experience overseeing the development of video-based educational resources and promotional videos
Experience creating documentary-style video
Experience creating successful marketing strategies
In this small publishing ministry, the other tasks that will require your attention are too numerous to list. Some will require supervision, while others will involve decision-making. At times, the position might require tasks that seem trivial and may be considered an intrusion into the day of the Creative Director. Such tasks are to be viewed as necessary to the ongoing growth and health of Church Initiative.
The Creative Director reports directly to the Executive Producer. At times, as assigned, he or she will be asked to report to and work with others on our staff.
This position plays a central role in a Christian ministry, so it is important that applicants demonstrate spiritual maturity, including faith in Jesus Christ and active participation in a local church.
