I don't know about you, but I prefer the Lava Rock flame base for the drippings to flare up and flavor my meat rather than the "new style" (cheaper) metal plate flame base. Something about the fat dripping on metal and flaming up is not appealing to me. I just replaced the burner in this grill with a brand-new stainless steel H burner. the H burner is superior in that the flame is evenly distributed all over the grating surface. No hot or cold spots. The grill body is built with VERY THICK aluminum. Don't buy one of those cheap, flimsy sheet metal grills that look good for a year and then you throw it away. This one should serve you as well as it served me for many more years to come.
