Offered up is a Greta Garbo Hurrell Signed Photo which is possibly signed by her.
The photo measures approximately 13” by 9”, and the image features a renowned portrait of actress Greta Garbo, taken in April 1930 by George Hurrell during the filming of Romance. The portrait does show age associated wear as does the old frame its in. There is an inscription and signature on the photo, which I believe reads: To Anna Strindberg Greta Garbo. I’ve tried to match it to examples but cannot find a match. Hence, I’m selling it for just photo value alone “as-is”. And I believe the photo value I’ve placed on it alone is quite well worth what I’m asking.
Regarding the photo itself, this iconic black-and-white photograph exemplifies Hurrell's signature style, which emphasized dramatic lighting and skillful retouching to create glamorous, idealized images of Hollywood stars during the Golden Age
From what I looked up, at the time this portrait was taken, Greta Garbo was the highest-paid and most powerful female star in the world. However, despite her immense fame, Garbo was known for her private and reclusive nature, which further enhanced her mystique and public image as a screen siren.
The photograph captures Garbo in character as Rita Cavallini from Romance, a role that required her to wear heavy costumes, including the wool dress and cap she is seen wearing in the portrait.
This particular portrait is considered one of Hurrell's most famous works and a defining image of Garbo's career, cementing her legacy as a cinematic legend.
…..So if your a silver screen buff,
and love watching Turner Classic Movies,
this piece should be right up your alley….
