Well-established law practice located in Brandon, Florida seeks full-time paralegal or legal assistant to assist in daily operations/administrative tasks of the firm and to perform tasks related to litigation. Practice areas of the firm include criminal defense, family law and personal injury (plaintiffs).
Job duties include:
-Answering telephones and checking voicemail system;
-Checking emails and responding to emails;
-Scheduling and coordinating meetings with clients, mediations, court hearings, depositions (including coordination with process servers and court reporters), etc.;
-Drafting of dictated letters and pleadings (using Microsoft Word);
-Generation of standard pleadings;
-Scanning, printing and copying documents;
-Requesting records (from clients, insurance companies, medical offices, opposing counsel, clerk’s office, etc.);
-E-filing pleadings with the Courts;
-Creating, updating, organizing and otherwise maintaining individual client files;
-Categorizing/organizing discovery documents;
-Creating trial notebooks;
-Interacting with clients;
-Assistance in creating time-slips to be used for billing clients;
-Generating billing statements to be sent to clients; and
-Accepting and processing payments made by clients.
The following skills or attributes are required:
-Prior legal assistant experience;
-Superior communication skills (written and verbal);
-Superior word processing (Microsoft Word) knowledge;
-Superior organizational skills;
-Superior attention to detail;
-Ability to multi-task;
-Ability to follow instructions as given by attorney;
-Positive attitude and ability to work well with others;
-Great customer service to clients;
-Understanding the importance of deadlines and managing tasks accordingly;
The following attributes are preferred:
-At least two (2) years of experience working in a law office that handles litigation;
-Experience with e-filing documents;
-Experience with preparation of family law financial affidavits, mandatory disclosure, child support guideline worksheets, etc.; and
-Experience in drafting standard pleadings filed in criminal and/or civil cases.
This position will pay between $18.00 per hour and $21.00 per hour, depending of experience and other skills or attributes. There will be a ninety (90) day probationary period.
