Study Title: EEG Information Processing and Affect
USF IRB #: STUDY002093
Principal Investigator: Prof. Peter Clayson

We are looking for people to participate in a research study who have never struggled with anxiety or depression.

The Psychology Department at the University of South Florida (USF) is conducting a study exploring the relationship between brain activity and affective symptoms (anxiety and depression). We are looking to recruit people who have never struggled with anxiety or depression.

The study consists of an initial brief phone screen to determine eligibility and at least one visit to the Tampa campus of USF. The visit to USF will last about 5.5 hours. If you participate, we will ask you to:

• Provide a brief social and medical history
• Participate in an interview that will include questions about your mental health
• Fill out questionnaires about how you have been feeling lately
• Complete three tasks that assess information processing
• Allow us to measure your biological signals, such as brain activity, heart rate, skin conductance, and movement of facial muscles, using non-invasive procedures

We will pay you $20.00 per hour in addition to your “winnings” from one of the information processing tasks, up to ~$130 total on an Amazon gift card at the end of your visit. There might also be an opportunity to return for another session about one month after your first appointment.

There are no other personal benefits to you. You will be contributing to overall knowledge about the impact of worry and depression on information processing.

To participate you must be at least 18 years old, speak/read/write English, have normal or corrected-to-normal vision, not have a neurological disorder (e.g., epilepsy), not have had a head injury where you were knocked unconscious for more than 5 minutes, not have a recent substance use disorder (last month), not been hospitalized for mental health reasons in the last three months, and not have had any medication changes in the last month.

If you are interested, please contact us by e-mail. Please include contact information (email and phone number and time to call).
