It's an unfortunate fact in today's society, but assaults and domestic violence against women have been on the rise year after year. That's why it's important for women of all ages to know how to protect themselves, especially against a larger, stronger or more powerful opponent.
Aikido is a Japanese martial that focuses on technique and balance, not physical strength, size or power, making it an ideal martial art for woman of all ages. Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical energy, as the aikido practitioner "leads" the attacker's momentum using smooth entering and turning movements. These techniques are then completed with various throws or joint locks.
